A Brief History of Solar Design Studio

Our managing partner and founder, Bob Solger, originally launched The Energy Savings Store in 2003 and the Solar Design Studio in 2009,  with one simple goal. He wanted to help residential and commercial customers receive optimal returns from their clean power investments. Meeting this objective required seamlessly integrating financial management, energy efficiency, PV engineering and design, solar installation, and architectural knowledge under one umbrella.

Over the years, we’ve consistently delivered on this promise, helping to design, build, finance, and manage more than 2,500 projects across:

  • Solar power
  • Energy storage
  • Microgrids
  • Solar heating and cooling
  • Wind energy

How Our Renewable Energy Mission Has Evolved

While our primary focus remains renewable energy engineering and design, we are fully capable of providing turnkey solutions for a broad range of projects within the green vertical.

Our full list of clean power capabilities includes:

  • Financial feasibility studies
  • Business consulting
  • Environmental impact assessments
  • Technology application consulting
  • Project permitting and regulatory paperwork
  • Utility consulting
  • Energy efficiency and auditing
  • Off-grid power
  • Green incentives
  • Project financing
  • Training and development
  • Project Management
  • Project Commissioning

True to our founding principles, we remain committed to helping residential and commercial clients enjoy the greatest energy savings at the lowest possible cost. However, that mission now also encompasses manufacturing, utility, and solar integration clients who require expert business consulting and design services to meet their own clean power goals.

In addition, our service area has also expanded to include all of North America, Europe, and scattered nations around the globe.

Unmatched Solar Expertise and Qualifications

Since launching our first company in 2003 and our second in 2009, Solar Design Studio has emerged as Kansas City’s most experienced and trusted clean energy authority. As a NABCEP Certified Solar PV Installer with professional engineering licensing, we have been involved in design and deployment of more than 30 MW of installed solar capacity across more than 2,500 separate PV projects.

And we owe much of this success to the incredible support Solar Design Studio continues to receive through its partnerships with:

  • SEIA – the Solar Energy Industries Association
  • MOSEIA – the Missouri Solar Energy Industries Association (Founding Board Member)
  • USGBC – the US Green Building Council (Kansas City Chapter Member)
  • The Heartland Renewable Energy Society

About Our Founder and Managing Partner

None of the above accomplishments would have been possible without our Bob Solger. Under his leadership, Solar Design Studio has grown from humble beginnings in the greater Missouri and Kansas region to become the international renewable energy presence that it is today.

What Our Clients Are Saying

I am very pleased with the outcome on my solar system designed by your company. This design was a very professional presentation of a well thought out plan. I believe the components of the system are of high quality and will last many years. I also received some positive comments about the electrical diagrams from my electrician. Job will done!
